| a:Class Notes : Please read! | |
| ******Please be patient as these pages will take quite a while to load as they are very graphic heavy! Go get a drink or snack while they load***** | |
| You may use printed fabric, or hand dyed fabric, or plain flesh fabric which you will dye, stamp , decorate etc later . If you have difficulty turning then you may chose to use a knit fabric for ease of turning. Whatever you chose is Ok..this is YOUR CREATIVE Angel.:-) | |
| When sewing dolls you need to use a small
stitch ..around 1.5 or 2 is Ok. If you have one use an open toed or clear
foot on your sewing machine so you can see the edge of the Freezer paper
as you sew.
If you are new to doll making it is a good idea to learn how to sew around curves by leaving the sewing machine needle in the fabric, lifting up the foot and swivelling your fabric with your hands to where you need it..then, needle down and on again. Take your time and enjoy! |
|
| These are the instructions for making the Basic doll which can then have a broach pin sewn ( not glued as they come off!) on the back or have a ribbon attached so it can become a Xmas Tree Ornament | |
| The instructions are written with simple explanations and lots of pictures so that even beginners will be able to follow them..If you are more experienced you will know which ones you can skip through | |
| This Angel is designed so you can embellish her and unleash your creativity to come up with a fabulous Angel that looks wonderful to you. This class will not teach you any embellishing techniques you need to find out about those in classes or books etc. Have fun with this project please! | |
| b: Getting started | ![]() |
| 1: Trace out the 3 pattern pieces onto Freezer paper and cut them out around the edges. | ![]() |
| 2:Iron the Freezer Paper pieces with the plastic or waxy side down onto your fabric which is doubled and has the right sides together. | ![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
| c: Body | |
| 1::All pieces of the pattern are Templates.....so with your sewing machine set at a small stitch..around 1.5 or 2 | ![]() |
| 2: Sew all around the edges of the Freezer paper BODY leaving NO OPENING! Reinforce the starting and ending stitches on all sewing. NOTE: If you catch the very edge of the freezer paper in your stitching it is not the end of the world. It will still peel off ok!!:-) | ![]() |
| 3:Next cut around the edge of the body leaving a 8 mm seam as shown in the picture. | ![]() |
| 4:Peel the freezer paper off, you can use this again for your second and third Angel. | ![]() |
![]() |
|
| 5:Carefully SLASH through ONLY ONE SINGLE THICKNESS of fabric on the Body with sharp scissors or snips. See where to slash on your pattern pieces. | ![]() |
| 6:To stop the slash getting bigger or fraying away, use a few tiny drops of Fray check on the edges | ![]() |
| 7:Snip all the inward facing curves right up close to the stitching lines. | ![]() |
| 8; Now turn the Body through the Slash opening, carefully , gently and slowly ease each corner through as I have shown you in all the pictures. The slash will indicate the back of the Body . | ![]() |

| 9:Push the haemostats inside and all around the Body to smooth and even out the seams . | ![]() |
![]() |
|
| TIP:These haemostats are the only stuffing and turning tool I use these days. I Love them and wouldn't recommend anything else. | ![]() |
| d:Stuffing the Body | ![]() |
| 1: Measure 1 X 6mm white Chemille stem or pipe cleaner next to the arms of the Angel. After adding a little length to turn the sharp ends under cut the stem in two so that you have one piece that will fit into the length of the arms and another short piece. | ![]() |
| 2: Take the long one and bend both sharp ends inside | ![]() |
| 3: Insert the long piece of stem into the arms. | ![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
![]() |
|
| 4:Now take the short piece and bend it in half. | ![]() |
| 5:Now bend the sharp ends inward. | ![]() |
| 6:Insert this into the neck, and hand sew it in place to the fabric on the outside of the neck, if you would like it to stay put easier.( this will be covered by the head later) | ![]() |
![]() |
|
| 7:Stuff the body while keeping the stems in place. DO NOT put any stuffing into the length of the arms. | ![]() |
| 8:You may need to put a little stuffing into the neck and into the shoulders just so there are no gaps, but please don't have big bulges anywhere. | ![]() |
| 9; When you are happy with the stuffing carefully sew up the slash at the back of the body. | ![]() |
